CONSTIPATION...

Our lives are consumed with Jacob's poop... Yesterday afternoon we went to the doctor to see if he could figure out if Jacob was alright because he had not pooped since Saturday. He was really getting uncomfortable and starting to fuss a lot, which we all know is not like Jacob.

Let's also add in the fact that I tried to hook the boy up on Sunday by giving him pureed beef and spinach for dinner. So of course when he started freaking out about midnight on Sunday the first thought in mommies head was it is the beef and daddy did wrong.

So back to the doctor's visit... We took Jacob in and the nurse took his temperature and that was normal. Then it was time for the doctor to come in and start quizzing mommy and daddy. Of course daddy feeding him the beef came up, along with the potential that it was the oatmeal that was causing the blockage. The doctor mentioned that more than likely it was not the beef that caused the constipation. whew --- daddy wasn't necessarily the bad guy in this case of constipation.

The doctor gave Jacob the "finger check" (for those of you that don't understand maybe this clue will help --- he used a rubber glove and lube). He said that everything felt normal but he wanted to test the stool to make sure that it had no blood in it. The test came back not showing any blood in the stool. At the end of the examination the doctor felt confident that Jacob would be find because his stool did not feel hard when he did the probing.

Then on cue Jacob grunted a few times. We knew he was either trying to poop or he was pooping. After realizing that the stench that we were smelling was not going away --- WE KNEW THE BOY HAD POOPED.

Oh boy, did he poop and to be visual with the story you could understand why he could not poop because even though it was not hard it was still in the shape of a wedge and thick. So mommy, daddy, and the doctor are just ecstatic that his constipation was finally relieved. We started to clean up the boys bottom side.

As we were cleaning the craziest thing that I have ever been apart of happened. Mommy was holding up his legs so his legs did not get covered in poop and daddy was wiping as much as he could to get the boy cleaned off. All of a sudden the dam breaks and there is poop everywhere on the examining table. Three days of build up had been released. The doctor walks back into the room after hearing the commotion and is over joyed at what he sees. Actually he thanked Jacob several times for making his day because in the many years that he had been a doctor he had never seen such a thing happen.

After help from the haz-mat team we were able to get the room and Jacob cleaned up and ready to go. At this point Jacob was a new man and had nothing but smiles for the rest of the day.

Moving forward we are going to give it a week before we think about adding oatmeal back into the diet and see if his system starts working properly again.

So for those of you that get grossed out by poop stories you have probably stopped reading by now for those of you that have kids I am sure that you have your own story of a battle with constipation in your child, so I am happy to bring that thought back into your brain...

Thanks for listening to my poop story!

Tomorrow I will be leaving out of Richmond after work and heading to watch my little brother play his last baseball game. He is hanging up the cleats & glove to pursue a dream in coaching at the college level. I am going to attempt to blog some of the adventure!
