We survived a great ball game at Camden Yards in our fabulous seats, and woke up to a beautiful morning in Baltimore where we walked an easy 4 blocks to the inner harbor for lunch. We then started to head back to the hotel to return to Richmond and reality when we got
Caught in the Rain! As we looked at eachother and laughed as the rain drops became heavier, fatter, and more frequent....our leisurely walk turned into a brisk jog as we headed for the Convention Center for shelter. As our clothes (and my white shirt...Yikes) started to saturate, I looked at Jeff under shelter and said "I can't remember the last time I got caught in the rain." As most of the readers of this blog don't live in a big city, we are rarely more than 20 paces from our cars, or from umbrella access. It kind of makes you feel like a kid again; like you just wanna throw caution to the wind and start jumping in puddles; however maturity, pregnancy and common sense told me otherwise. So, we charge ahead. In a stereotypical chivalrous act, Jeff decided to leave me at the Convention Center as there was no telling when the rain would stop....and the thunder and lightning was holding off for the moment. He started his 2 block journey "up town" to get the car. I watched him jog up the street until he was out of sight, and that is when it started to DUMP rain. It blew sideways, I stood with a family of three close to the doors so as not to get wet....thinking of Jeff as he was probably soaked to the bone by now. A clap of thunder louder than I have ever heard shook the building and scared me to death...then the sirens for the next 10 minutes resounded throught the city. I knew that lightining hit something, and at this point I was just content to know that the flashing lights were not headed in the direction of the Holiday Inn "uptown." I stood there taking pictures with my new blackberry so that I could post my first official blog because I am incapable of simply standing still and doing nothing. So, a few minutes later in the same clothes that he wore to the baseball game, Jeff pulls up....He had changed his clothes in the parking garage and they, in their defeat, lay in a soaking wet pile in the floor board of my car. I was happy I was dry, and Jeff's mission was to make sure that I stayed that way. Thank goodness for Jeff and the overhang of the Baltimore Convention Center. I felt very blessed.
