Back Home and Buckling Down For Hanna...

I left Pittsburgh yesterday around 5pm and got back to my beautiful "prego" wife around 11pm. It was a smooth trip home. I did not run in to any rain until I got on I95 South at Fredericksburg, but even then it was very spotty. My body and mind are both very exhausted but relieved that my little brother is safely at his host parents house getting some rest.
Thanks for everyones support and prayers for Kris during his surgery.  We finally left the hospital around midnight (so we had a long day at the hospital). He was in surgery from 3pm to 7:20pm, but the surgery was a success.  We had to hang around at the hospital because he could not get a grip on the stomach until late into the night. I finally got to see him around 10pm and boy was that a great feeling to be able to see him; even if his arm was wrapped up and he was really drugged up.  By the time that we got home we were both wiped out... Every 4hrs. we had to wake up and make sure that he got his pain medicine.

BTW No "Hooters" for Kris, however the first thing that he did mention to his trainer when waking up was that he wanted a Cheeseburger.  So after having a very extreme surgery and being under for over 4hrs the very first thing that he said when coming to was "I want a cheeseburger" but she said that he immediately went back to sleep.

We went back to see his surgeon the next day just for a follow up and the doctor was very impressed and optimistic that the surgery was a success.  He explained to us that they took a 12" piece of his tendon out of his leg and weaved it through holes that they had drilled into his bones in his arm.  The reason why the surgery takes so long is that you are dealing with such a small place and no area for error. There is a nerve that sits over the area that they have to run the canal in the bone that must not be touched or could cause problems with his hand.  They were able to get everything done without having to even move the nerve.  He did have a little bit of a tingling feeling in his hand, but the doctor said that was normal because he was in a tourniquet for over 4 hours.  Now that surgery is done Kris will stay in PA for two weeks so the doctor can check him out. He will then return to Charlotte for a month before he has to come back to PA for a check-up. At that point the doctor will transfer him down to a partner in Charlotte that will oversee him through his long rehab.  He will rehab for six months after that if all goes well he will begin to slowly get back into throwing.  The overall rehab for a position player normal takes between 8 to 10 months. For a pitcher it takes anywhere from 15 to 18 months to get back on the field. Kris is banking to be playing next season.  Again, thanks for everyones prayers and support through his surgery.

I wanted to give a special thanks to the Miller Family for taking Kris in and making him feel like part of the family.
